The Largest Living Animal in the World

Elephants are the largest living animals on land. They are strong, intelligent, and gentle animals. Many kids and parents love to see elephants because they are friendly ( Not always) and live in family groups. They eat plants, fruits, grass, and leaves. An elephant uses its long trunk to eat, drink water, and pick things. There are two main types of elephants in the world,

 

  1. African Elephant

  2. Asian Elephant

On average, African elephants are about 10 feet tall at the shoulder and weight up to 18000 pounds. The largest animal ever recorded in history, however, is 13 feet tall and weighs up to 24000 pounds. They are native to sub-Saharan Africa.

The Asian elephant is smaller than the African elephant. they are grown about 8 feet tall at the shoulder and weight up to 7500 pounds  However, one of the majestic and most intelligent creatures on our planet. You might think you know them, But these gentle giants have some fascinating secrets from their diffrent subspecies.  They are actually divided in to Three main subspecies such as,

  1. Indian Elephant
  2. Srilanka elephant
  3. Sumatran Elephant

🐘 Indian Elephant

The most intelligent subspecies of the Asian elephant. they have calm behavior and ability to live in forest areas close to humans.

  • Lives in forests and grasslands of India and South Asia
  • Very intelligent and easy to train compared to other elephants
  • Protected by wildlife conservation laws


🐘 Sri Lankan Elephant

The Sri Lankan Elephant is one of the largest Asian elephant subspecies and is famous for its big body, It is commonly seen in wildlife safaris in Sri Lanka.

  • Largest Asian elephant subspecies
  • Many Males do not have tusks
  • Lives in national parks and Wild reserves


🐘 Sumatran Elephant

The Sumatran Elephant is smaller in size and lives in deep tropical forests. It is one of the most endangered elephant subspecies in the world and needs strong protection.

Key facts:

  • Lives in forests of Indonesia (Sumatra island)
  • Smaller body compared to other Asian elephants
  • Critically endangered and protected by conservation programs.
